Welcome my friends!!

I have awesome news, FINALLY got working cable internet!!!  It's been a challenging week and a half without internet at home, but it's fixed now.  I was able to upload a few full recordings from Ustream onto YouTube, check out one of my favourites recorded a few years ago:

Mixed Media Drawings on Post Cards

Happy Saturday!

I hope everyone is safe and warm after the wonderful snow a lot of us North East Coasters got in the last few days.

I have been struggling lately and decided to take a challenge out of this wonderful book.  It was a challenge to mindlessly make collage backgrounds.  Here are my results:

I cut the larger sheets into 4x6 postcards and have started drawing faces onto the random backgrounds.

I have really enjoyed taking such random backgrounds and painting over them without thinking about placement.  Such fun things magically appear! 

By request, I will be streaming tonight on Ustream at 9:30pm EST and we will create similar backgrounds together.  If you'd like to play along, gather these supplies and get ready for fun!

- a few pieces of large paperboard (such as cereal boxes) or heavy weight cardstock Note:  You may want to gesso these prior to the show, depending on your style.  I will be!

- 3 random inkpads if you have them

- 4 colours of acrylic paint

- your favourite paint brushes

- black waterproof marker, such as a Sharpie

- scraps of patterned paper (scrapbook or handmade)

- random flat collage material (book pages, bits of other artwork, tickets etc)

- a random magazine

- 4 random coloured pencils

- something to create texture, think bubble wrap, a sponge etc

- stamps, waterproof ink if you have it

- Stencils, spray ink

Have these out and ready.  I know a lot of us have all these things on our worktables surrounding us all of the time.  However, take the time to gather what's on the list.  The fun of this challenge is to use limited supplies.  Please leave your expectations at the door.  :)

Stencil Saturday and a WIP Art Journal

Happy Saturday my friends!  I am so excited that it's the weekend, and that it's Stencil Saturday!!  Here is the page we worked on last Saturday on Ustream.

I bought this REALLY cool book last weekend which has 400 word and phrase stickers.  I got it on clearance for $5, but you can find it here on Amazon.  It's called Sticker Nation.  LOVE

Yesterday a few of my friends were talking about UFO's (unfinished objects) and WIP's (works in process).  This is a huge subject for me as I have MANY unfinished pages, in multiple stages.  Recently I have learned to not worry too much about finishing each and every page, it's all about the process.

Here are a few pages that are in one of my handmade watercolor journals.  The journal has 20 pages, and they are all WIP's.

As you can see, lots of yummy pages, in all different stages of "done" (is a page ever really done??).  I need to take a day and add the finishing touches to each of these pages!

My question to you, how do you deal with WIP's and UFO's?  Do they bother you?

Art Journaling From The Couch

Welcome my friends!  I have missed you all so much.  I have had a challenging week, a week full of migraines and coughing.  I have made a doctors appointment for Monday morning to figure out why I've been so sick, so frequently these past few months.

When I am not feeling well and can't get into my art room, I take my art to the couch or my bed.  This week I took my little tote of supplies and my Moleskine and spent some time colouring.

I enjoyed the relaxing feeling of colouring with coloured pencils (pencil crayons as I call them).  I had previously painted these random faces with watered down craft paint, so adding colour with the pencils was easy.  These faces were inspired by the wonderful Dede

I also had a great time playing with the Sennelier Oil pastels that I got on clearance at Michael's in the pages below.  It was great just to learn how they blend and layer.  I didn't worry about the outcome of these five faces, it was about the calming process of creating them.

I also enjoyed finishing a few pages that were partially complete with some doodling and bits of ephemera.

It has been a challenging week, I am truly exhausted.  Through this exhaustion I found comfort in doing some art, playing with supplies I don't use all the time.

Shall I blog again?

It's been a few years. I let my typepad blog expire, so I thought I'd start anew. I am hoping to document and share my life, my art... and a lot of craziness along the way. I hope you will follow me on this journey.

I have foresaken my scrapbooking for many months for my new addiction to art journalling. I suppose that my journals are still somewhat scrap friendly, which I struggle with. Is it art? Is it craft? Does it really matter as long as I'm creating?

Here are a few things I've been working on. I hope you will bear with me as I learn all about this blogging stuff, you know, how to make this look as pretty as all the rest. I'm beyond excited for this new journey!
